Welcome to the Rebel Version, where we let our appreciation for art run wild.

The Clemency of Augustus; knight restraining a female figure (François André Vincent):This compositional study by Vincent is an exquisite muscular pen and ink drawing inspired by his 1787 painting The Clemency of Augustus. Similar to his contemporaries Jacques Louis David, Vincent originally drew the individuals in their naked states before figuring out the compositions for his historical paintings. The artist's depiction of the last scene of Pierre Corneille's 1641 play, Cinna, reflects the dramatic heritage of the individuals in their declamatory attitudes.
